Israel, A clash between Palestinian and Israeli police has broken out at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. At least 42 people were injured in the clashes on Friday. The Palestinian Red Cross said there had been tension in the area for some time. The clashes took place on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The Red Cross said all were out of danger but 22 had been taken to hospital.
Israeli police said police had to break into the compound when rioters hurled stones and fireworks down the west wall. Below the western wall of Al Aqsa is a Jewish sanctuary.
Police officers used anti-riot tactics to quell the riots. Eyewitnesses said police used tear gas and rubber bullets. Three people have been arrested, police said. Two to throw stones and one to provoke the crowd.
The Israeli incident at the site during Ramadan has raised concerns around the world, but the Jewish state of Israel says it was forced to take action against the Islamic group Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which was preparing to destabilize Jerusalem.
