Here prisoners are not asked their final wishes before death. Also, they are doomed to die alone. One of the major tourist attractions is Singapore. Amidst the beautiful scenery and beautiful valleys, no humility is shown towards the criminals who have been sentenced to death in this country. Even in a country like America, prisoners are fed their favorite dish before being hanged.
But there is no such generosity in Singapore. There the prisoners are hanged directly. A Malaysian national was hanged in Singapore on April 4 on drug charges, raising questions about the death penalty. Singapore is now one of the few countries in the world where the death penalty is used.
At present, death penalty has been introduced for about 3 crimes. Chief among these are dress smuggling, murder, terror and possession of explosives. There is no apology in Singapore for these four crimes. However, in 2015, the law was amended to say that in some cases the death penalty would be replaced with life imprisonment or flogging. In which a prisoner will be stripped naked and beaten 3 times daily till he is alive. Prisoners are hanged in Singapore’s Changi Prison.
Going into this prison-like fort means that the prisoner will not be able to get out of there as long as he is alive. In the United States, where a prisoner is asked for his last wishes before being hanged and his family members are also introduced, there is no such relaxation in Singapore.
