New Delhi, On April 3, a section of the bridge over the river Ganga in Sultanganj collapsed during a storm. No casualties were reported in the accident.
Meanwhile, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday expressed surprise at a statement by an IAS officer who had caused part of a bridge under construction in Sultanganj, Bihar, to collapse due to “strong winds”.
Gadkari said in a program that a bridge collapsed in Bihar on April 4. When asked by his secretary the reason for this, he replied that the pool had collapsed due to strong winds and dew.
The Union Minister wondered how an IAS officer could trust such a revelation. Gadkari said, “I do not understand how the bridge could collapse due to strong winds and mist.” There must have been a mistake that caused the bridge to collapse.
During the program, the Minister stressed on the need to reduce the cost of construction of bridges without compromising on quality.
Construction of the bridge between Sultanganj in Bihar and Aguani Ghat started in the year 2012. Although its construction was supposed to be completed in 2012 but it has not been completed yet
