Demand for solar panels and geysers is on the rise across cities across the country, such as Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune, as India focuses on generating alternative energy sources and reducing its dependence on coal, according to a recent report by Just Dial Consumer. Demand for solar devices on Just Dial, India’s number one local search engine, grew by 14% year-on-year in April 2022. Demand in Tier 1 cities increased by 13% and in Tier 2 cities by 11% during the period.
The two most searched solar devices include solar panels and geysers, while solar lights, inverters and fans are among the top five most searched solar products nationwide. Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune are the top three cities in the country in terms of solar energy adoption.
Reacting to search trends, Just Dial’s CMO Prasoon Kumar said, “In response to growing demand for renewable energy sources across the country, Just Dial has consolidated the solar power equipment market online, which the industry estimates will reach 6. 6.3 billion in the next two years.”

Delhi, Pune and Mumbai are the top tier 1 cities with the highest demand for solar panels. Demand in Delhi has risen by 39 per cent, but the highest increase in searches in tier 1 cities has been in Kolkata (45 per cent). Among the tier 2 cities, Lucknow, Jaipur, Surat, Vadodara and Chandigarh saw the highest growth, with demand for solar panels growing by 19 per cent.
Bengaluru’s contribution to demand for Tier 1 cities for solar gear has been 45 per cent. Pune and Hyderabad were ranked second and third respectively. In April 2022, Hyderabad recorded the highest demand of 43%. Tier 2 cities have seen the highest demand from the top 5 cities like Nashik, Mysore, Kolhapur, Coimbatore and Belgaum.
Bengaluru tops the list in demand for solar lights, followed by Delhi and Mumbai in the second and third tier 1 cities, where demand increased by 11% in April 2022. Demand for solar lights has increased by 10 per cent in Tier 2 cities, with Patna, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Chandigarh and Mysore having the highest demand.
Demand for solar inverters has been high in Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad as demand in Tier 1 cities has increased by 17 per cent. However, the demand for solar inverters has increased by 44% in Bengaluru. Tier 2 cities saw a 35 per cent increase in demand, with Jaipur, Lucknow and Chandigarh having the highest number of searches.
