IF you’ve ever enjoyed tucking into a roast dinner at Toby Carvery, you’ll already know a lot about the tasty food.

But now the staff members have revealed some secrets about working behind the scenes of the popular pub restaurant that might leave you surprised.

Toby Carvery workers have revealed what it’s like to work at the popular chain[/caption]

In an interview with the Daily Star, several workers have lifted the lid on the unknown facts – from how they get free food each day to their one big gripe when it comes to bottomless drinks.

They’ve also had their say on why their day job makes them extremely popular with friends and family, as well as the one item of food they don’t mind running out of, as they run through the things they’ve always wanted to tell you.

Free Food

As far as perks of the job go, Toby Carvery has a pretty huge one – free meals for all staff.

However, there’s a slight catch, as, to ensure customers don’t go hungry, workers have to wait until the end of the working day to have their meal free of charge.

Throughout their normal working hours, they receive an impressive fifty percent off, or if they’re visiting outside of work hours, it’s thirty three percent off the final bill.

WHAT THE CLUCK?

Perks of the Job

The staff revealed their discount also makes the workers extremely popular with their nearest and dearest.

And who can blame them? A discounted Sunday roast sounds like our kind of weekend.

Always Saying Sorry

If your local Toby Carvery is anything like ours, it’s almost always busy with very few tables spare.

So imagine how tough it is to be the waiters and waitresses, cleaning tables and grabbing drinks.

The staff said: “There’s customers everywhere, weaving in between them – while grinning and apologising – has become quite the skill.

“We know it gets rather busy, but we would really appreciate it if you could leave a bit of room for us to get through while we’re clearing tables.”

Polite Request

Although the staff love working there, they do have one small bugbear with customers’ requests – especially when it comes to bottomless drinks.

They urged customers to fill them up for themselves where possible, adding that it was hard when they want them refilled every five minutes.

Leaving Work Behind

Even when the staff are in the comfort of their own homes, there’s one thing that returns with them – the smell of gravy.

They explained: “At the end of a long day, they say you should try and leave your work behind as you head home, but when we open our front door, there’s one thing that prevents us from forgetting – the smell of gravy.

“There have been many occasions where I’ve arrived home smelling of gravy.”

Early Finish

While you might think that the restaurant running out of meat before the end of the day would spell disaster, the staff said there’s a secret reason that they’re thrilled when this happens.

They explained: “The more you eat, the better for us, as sometimes when food supplies run low, we’re able to leave early.”

Up and at Them

While many people would worry about going into work when they’re feeling a little worse for wear and battling the results of a hangover, the Toby Carvery staff think differently.

Instead of nursing a headache, they get to indulge in a delicious roast with all the trimmings.

The result? The staff said they’d previously waved goodbye to their hangovers nice and quickly while on the job.

Tip Generously

The last thing that the workers want their loyal customers to know is that while the restaurant is self-service, they’re still putting in a hundred per cent to give you the best experience.

So, if you have it, they’d love for you to tip, saying: “Before you leave to go home and put your feet up in front of the telly, make sure to spare a thought for those who are run off their feet on Sunday afternoons.”
