Chandigarh,Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala has been sentenced to four years. The court ruled in the case of assets in excess of income. A Delhi court has slapped a fine of over Rs 2 million on a former Haryana CM. At the same time, four of their properties will be confiscated.
The properties of OP Chautala at Hailey Road, Gurugram Jan Pratinidhi, Panchkula and Asola will be confiscated as per the Rouge Avenue court’s verdict. According to the verdict, if he does not pay the fine, he will have to serve 3 more months.
In 2007, Om Prakash Chautala and three others were charged with fraud in the recruitment of 206 junior basic trained teachers in the state from the year 19 to the year 2000. He was also found guilty in the year 2013. Chautala was convicted in the JBT scam in January 2016.
Apart from the JBT scam, this is the second case of disproportionate assets in which OP Chautala has been found guilty. Abhay Chautala, on the other hand, said he would file an appeal in the High Court on Monday against the verdict.
Special Judge Vikas Dhule said that on May 31, they were convicted under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case was dragged out of court for 15 years. Let me tell you that this case was filed in 2006.
Om Prakash Chautala had amassed a lot of wealth during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Haryana. According to the chargesheet filed by the CBI, former CM Chautala is responsible for amassing assets worth Rs 2.09 crore (more than his own source of income) between the years 18 and 2009.
In May 2016, the ED had attached assets worth over Rs 2.5 crore. Om Prakash Chautala’s lawyer has appealed for leniency in sentencing for his poor health and good behavior. His lawyer said Chautala had a lung infection and could not change his clothes.
They need help to get around. Prosecutors claim he is 80 per cent disabled because of his illness, so he should be given a lenient sentence. Om Prakash Chautala was the Chief Minister of Haryana four times from 18 to 2006. His son Dushyant Chautala is the Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana. Hs2kp
