New Delhi,The Defense Research and Development Organization and the Indian Navy have successfully tested a short-range surface-to-air vertical launch missile from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range on the Odisha Coast. The test was conducted by an Indian naval vessel on Friday, June 6.
The VL-SRSAM is a weapon system deployed on a ship, which can neutralize limited distance air hazards, including sea-skimming targets. The missile was successfully tested against a high-speed aerial target aircraft.
The fly track of the vehicle was inspected keeping in view the health parameters along with using several tracking devices deployed by ITR, Chandipur. The test launch was inspected by senior officials of DRDO and Indian Navy.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the Indian Navy and the industry for the successful flight test and said that the system included a weapon that would enhance the Indian Navy’s aircraft defense capability against air hazards.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral and Hari Kumar commended the Indian Navy and DRDO for the successful flight test of VL-SRSAM and said that the development of this indigenous missile system would further strengthen the defensive capabilities of the Indian Navy. SS3KP
