The Vice President is elected by proportional representation. It involves a special voting system called the Single Transferable Vote System. In it, the voters have to cast only one vote but they have to decide their preference on the basis of their choice. The new Vice President is to be elected within 30 days of the expiration of the term of the outgoing Vice President.
According to Article 8 of the Constitution, there are a total of 6 MPs in the constituency for the election of the Vice President. It consists of 4 elected members of Rajya Sabha and 12 nominated members as well as 6 members of Lok Sabha.
Not every vote has the same respect as in the presidential election but every MP has the same respect for the vote, i.e. one. This time the polling officer for the Presidential election will be the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha as, as a rule, the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are one (alternate) polling officer after another. If the present Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha is the Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, then the number of the General Secretary of the Lok Sabha will come up for the election of the Vice President. If required, voting will take place in Room No. 3 on the first floor of the Parliament House. SS3KP
