London, Britain’s senior cabinet members rallied on Downing Street on Wednesday. Meanwhile, some have called on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to step down after resigning from the cabinet. According to reports, a cabinet delegation had been waiting for a long time to inform the PM that their term was over. The UK Home Secretary has demanded Johnson’s resignation.
The delegation is said to include Home Minister Preeti Patel and Nadeem Jahvi. It has been barely 3 hours since he became the Finance Minister. It is worth mentioning here that the parents of Preeti Patel, who is the pride of the Patidar community, are originally Gujarati but she was born in London. His parents later moved to Uganda and returned to Britain in the 1990’s.
At a very young age, Preity Patel joined the Conservative Party. He was only 20 years old then. He is known as a shining star in the Conservative Party. Joe Johnson’s two loyalists, Nadine Doris and Jacob Rees Moge, announced their support in the cabinet.
According to the Daily Mirror, political editor Pippa Crare tweeted that there was an atmosphere of sadness in Downing Street. The source says there are ‘too many tears’ in the building.
It is pertinent to mention here that after the resignation of Rishi Sanak’s Finance Minister and Sajid Javid’s Health Secretary, the power of the 6-year-old Prime Minister has been clouded by crisis since Tuesday night. The two cabinet members who resigned said they could no longer tolerate the culture of scandal that has plagued Johnson for months. That includes the Downing Street lockout law.
A total of six ministers have resigned by Wednesday evening. Out of which most are members holding small positions. Amid the controversy, the Prime Minister vowed to continue working resolutely. Asked about the cabinet delegation, he told the committee, “I will not comment on political events.” We are moving the government of the country forward.
“What we want is a stable government, loving each other as conservatives, moving forward with our own priorities, we need to do that,” he said.
