Godrej Process Equipment to expand Dahej facility, aims to double revenue by FY 2024-25 – Strengthens operations in hydrogen and power sectors to specialize and deliver large equipment
MUMBAI, Godrej & Boys, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, announced that its business Godrej Process Equipment will expand its state-of-the-art facility in Dahej, Gujarat. They plan to double their revenue by the year 2025
And this expansion will significantly contribute to its capacity doubling and capacity building plans. The ongoing expansion will increase its production area by approximately 25,000 square meters. At present, more than Rs. 300 crores are being invested.
This state-of-the-art manufacturing facility was established in the year 2016 by Godrej & Boyce. The facility is well equipped to manufacture and deliver critical and over-dimensional consignments (ODC) for various international projects.
The currently ongoing expansion is being built with a focus on environmentally friendly principles with enhanced and efficient utilization of resources. Environmental initiatives such as solar power and various installations will include recycling, water conservation and reducing fuel consumption. The expansion is focused on meeting the growing needs of the industry and leads to local employment opportunities in the area.
This strategic expansion will involve a division dedicated to nuclear equipment and another division dedicated to heavy equipment manufacturing. It will have state-of-the-art clean room facility for important manufacturing process with metallurgy like titanium, zirconium etc.
Also the higher crane height will facilitate the production of large and over-dimensional equipment up to 16 meters in diameter. The expansion will also include an additional 2 manufacturing yards for large and ODC equipment. There will be an extended fabrication yard house with an under-the-hook height of 20 meters mainly focused on the production of large and over-dimensional static equipment. In future this extended yard will also be used for modular fabrication.
This expansion, both in terms of capacity and expansion, will help Godrej Process Equipment to enhance its operations in the hydrogen and power sectors, particularly in specialty and large equipment, as well as its existing portfolio in the oil and gas, chemicals and fertilizers and power sectors.
Godrej Process Equipment also focuses on increasing its production efficiency and productivity. The process flow (workcentre) concept is gradually transforming Dahej into a state-of-the-art facility. A workcenter is a designated area of production, designed to carry out specific operations and by implementing this flexibility is improved within the production system. Increased productivity has reduced lead times and reduced defects, thereby increasing specialization.
A dedicated training center is being modernized to enhance the in-house capacity of highly skilled personnel and workers. These plans are being implemented on a VR/AR-based welding simulating system, to provide welders with a complete experience and consequently bring the simulation closer to reality.
In his continuous drive towards excellence, he has recently set up a NABL accredited world class testing laboratory at Dahej.
This facility enables businesses to digitally transform their operations. IoT transformation is transformative in manufacturing and they plan to implement Industry 4.0. Automation as part of digitalization and implementation of production execution system on shop floor, increased focus on digital data capturing are various initiatives, which are under implementation in Dahej manufacturing facility.
The journey to emphasize automation begins with automated plate marking and cutting processes for each piece of equipment, followed by the use of under-water plasma cutting, waterjet cutting, hotwire TIG processes, submerged arc strip cladding (SASC) and advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques. happens
Additionally, various technologies including orbital welding, narrow groove tandem wire submerged arc welding (SAW) and inner bore internal diameter overlay streamlay streamline the device manufacturing process. Robotics are also used in key manufacturing activities like nozzle cutting, nozzle welding, tube-to-tube sheet welding etc. It is important to note here that more than 80 percent of their welding activities are automated and the main focus of automation is on increasing productivity, quality and safety.
Hussain Shariar, Senior Vice President and Business Head, Godrej Process Equipment, said, “The Dahej manufacturing facility has been able to achieve several milestones due to its capacity to deliver important projects and its well-preparedness. The Dahej facility was developed with the intention of creating a unique device in terms of dimensions as well as complexity.
Its uniqueness provides us with easy accessibility of international seaports for transportation of this type of equipment. We have embarked on our journey to make this facility a smart factory and increase productivity and product quality to delight the customer. Also, we aim to make this facility one of the most environmentally friendly in the industry.”
