Mumbai, A three-year-old girl climbed onto the railing of a seventh-floor balcony in an attempt to retrieve a phone that had fallen from her hand and fell to the ground, killing her on the spot.
The deceased child, Shreya Mahajan, was alone in a seventh-floor flat at Regency Villas in Heritage City, Vasai West, as her mother Shraddha went to drop her elder daughter (age 7) at the school bus stop outside the building when the incident took place at 7.15 am. Police said they sequenced the incident based on the condition in which the child and the phone were found in the compound.
Shreya Mahajan was sleeping alone in the bedroom of the house when the girl’s mother Shraddha went to drop her elder daughter at the bus stop. Meanwhile Shreya got up and went towards the balcony without seeing mother anywhere around.
She took her mother’s phone lying there and went to the balcony. The phone fell through the space between the railings. She climbed onto the railing and slipped from there. It hit an AC pole and fell into the compound.
Hearing the noise, the security guard immediately ran in that direction and raised the alarm. Immediately the people living in the flat gathered there. At that time Shraddha Par reached there and daughter Shreya passed in a pool full of blood. He was shocked to see her go like this.
Shreya was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The girl’s father works in a senior position in a private company and is currently in Singapore for the same.
After the incident, the police instructed the residents with small children in the house to install grills all over the balcony and also asked them not to leave the children alone in the house. A case of accidental death was registered by the police in this regard.SS1MS
