Women’s weightlifter Mirabai Chanu turned in a personal best to win the gold medal on the second day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday.
Birmingham: India’s Commonwealth Games B women’s weightlifter Mirabai Chanu produced her best performance to win the gold medal on the second day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday.
Joe won the gold and the fifth medal overall. 19-year-old weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinunga did not give up despite suffering an injury mid-match and won gold in the men’s 67kg category. He lifted 140 kg in snatch and 160 kg in clean and jerk. In this way he lifted a total of 300 kg and won the gold medal. Samoa’s Wevapa Ione (293 kg) won the silver.
Mizoram’s Jeremy lifted 136 kg in his first attempt in the snatch and came away with the gold medal. In the second attempt, he lifted 140 kg and strengthened his position and created a Games record. Jeremy made his third attempt at 143 kg. But he did not succeed in this.
The Indian weightlifter lifted 154 kg in his first attempt at clean and jerk and 160 kg in his second attempt. In the third attempt he tried 164 kg. But there was no success. However, he still won the gold. Jeremy was injured during his first attempt at a clean and jerk. Despite doing this, he came to pick up two more times. Jeremy Lalrinunga is a 2018 Youth Olympic gold medalist. Along with this, he also won gold in the 2021 Commonwealth Championship.
Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Indian women weightlifter Mirabai Chanu produced her best performance to win the gold medal on the second day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday. Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg category. Chanu lifted 109 kg in his first attempt at clean and jerk and won the gold medal. She failed in the third attempt but it didn’t matter as she finished first on the podium with a golden performance of 201 kg.
India has already got four medals in the Commonwealth. In 61 kg men’s weightlifting, Gururaj Pujari won the bronze, in the 55 kg category, India’s weightlifter Sanket Sargar got the silver medal. Prime Minister Modi has congratulated the players. India has come sixth in the medal table.
