It is worth mentioning that the Indian-origin English writer Rushdie came into controversy regarding his book in the 1980s. The book sparked outrage in the Muslim community, with a cleric even issuing a fatwa on his death. Salman is currently undergoing treatment and may lose his eye, while his liver is also damaged.

Ahmed Salman Rushdie was born on June 19, 1947 in a Kashmiri family in Mumbai, India. After turning 13, he was sent to the UK to study at a prestigious rugby boarding school. In 1968, he obtained a master’s degree in history (specializing in Islamic subjects) from King’s College, Cambridge University.
Before turning to writing, Rushdie worked in advertising. His first novel, Grimes (1975), was as brilliant a start to his career as it was controversial.
