Mumbai, At the 11th National Petrochemicals Awards, Mr. Rajinikanth Shroff, founder of UPL Ltd., has been awarded the Lifetime Recognition Award in the field of Chemicals and Petrochemicals by the State Level Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Bhagwant Khubana.
The award ceremony was held in New Delhi in the presence of industry stalwarts like Mr. Arun Baroka, Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals and Prof. Shishir Sinha, Director General of CIPET and representatives from industry, academia and R&T institutions.
Mr. Shroff, CMD, UPL Ltd. at the forefront of the Scientist-turned-Entrepreneur and Equal Opportunity Campaign said, “I am honored and humbled to receive the Lifetime Recognition Award. I have always been a nationalist at heart and of the country for giving me all the opportunities to be involved in the growth of our great country
And I thank the countrymen. I thank the Government of India for conferring this prestigious honor on me. This is truly an experience to be proud of. I congratulate my fellow awardees and thank them for their contribution to our country.”
Mr. Shroff has a career spanning over 50 years in the business sector. He has dedicated his life to the larger objective of increasing industrialization of the agrochemical sector in India, saving foreign exchange for the country by improving production standards to produce quality products at reasonable prices for Indian farmers. They believe that the objective of science and technology can be achieved only if products are made available to farmers with less land at reasonable prices.
The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC), Government of India announced the National Petrochemical Policy in April, 2007, which has accordingly established an award scheme.
It aims to promote outstanding innovations and research in the field of polymeric materials, products, manufacturing processes in areas of national and social importance. Its ultimate objective is to develop and maintain the petrochemical industry as an internationally competitive industry using environmentally friendly processes and technologies.
The current edition of the 11th National Petrochemicals Awards received applications from 315 candidates, out of which five candidates were selected as winners, six as runners-up and one candidate for the Lifetime Recognition Award.
