New Delhi, Indian culture is spreading rapidly in the country and abroad. Foreign nationals’ inclination towards Indian culture is growing rapidly, so Mayor Eric Adams made a big announcement. Starting next year 2023, New York City Public Schools will have a holiday for Diwali.
According to a CNN report, Mayor Eric Adams was joined by New York Assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar Jadaya, who presented legislation for the Diwali holiday to New York City Public Schools Chancellor David Banks, which was approved. After this, from the year 2023, there will be a holiday in New York on the festival of Diwali.
Legislators switched Anniversary Day, the old-timey “Brooklyn-Queens Day,” to the first Thursday of June in the public school calendar for the Diwali holiday.
According to the New York Post, Anniversary Day has been on the books since 1829 and has been a school holiday since the mid-1900s. According to a CNN report, the woman told the meeting that the New York City Public Schools calendar does not have enough space for the Diwali holiday, but the woman at the meeting said that our law makes room for it, so the festival of Diwali will now be celebrated instead of the anniversary day.
Addressing a gathering, Jennifer Rajkumar said that New York’s nearly 2 lakh citizens, including Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, and the festival of lights, Diwali, is the right time to recognize their faith.
Rajkumar further said that according to the state’s education law, the new school timetable will still have 180 days. Along with that he said that with this decision we will encourage our children to know about the festival of Diwali, now we will talk about it.
Which is a festival of light and how you light up within yourself and he said that when we embrace this festival, it means we are embracing the light within us that takes us from darkness to light.HS1MS
