New Delhi, Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court has banned Anganwadi workers from engaging in election and other work. The court has sent a copy of its order to the Chief Secretary so that he may issue necessary instructions to the District Magistrate concerned. There are 1.89 lakh Anganwadi workers in the state.
A single bench of Justice Alok Mathur gave this judgment on a petition filed by Manisha Kanojia and another. The petitioners said that they were working as Anganwadi workers in Anganwadi Center City Guleria Garda in Barabanki district.
He has been appointed by the administration for the duty of Booth Level Officer (BLO) in local body elections. This is against the Central and State Government orders and instructions. This deployment will affect the health care system for children and mothers in the area. The petitioners contended that other village level employees could be engaged in election work.
On the other hand, the response from DM and other parties said that election work is very important. In such a situation all the officers have to cooperate in this. On that the court said that the work of these workers is very important.
The health of pregnant women and others working in their election or any other work will be seriously affected. The court issued its order with this comment.
