T20 World Cup-unable to win Team India prepares for big change-BCCI ready to send SOS to Dhoni for bigger role with Indian T20 cricket set-up
NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for a major shake-up after its semi-final exit from the ICC T20 World Cup and continued failure in major tournaments. Amidst these preparations, BCCI is going to hand over a big responsibility to former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
According to reports, BCCI is ready to send an SOS to Dhoni for a bigger role with the setup of Indian T20 cricket. BCCI is considering calling Dhoni for a permanent role in Indian cricket.
The Control of Cricket in India feels that managing the three formats is a bit heavy for Team India head coach Rahul Dravid.
The BCCI is considering splitting the coaching roles. BCCI is trying to include Dhoni and raise the level of Team India. According to reports, this will be discussed in the Apex Council meeting to be held later this month.
Reports claim that Mahendra Singh Dhoni may retire from the IPL 2023 game. After which BCCI can give him a bigger responsibility to use his experience and technique properly. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who made India a two-time World Cup champion, may be asked to lead the T20 team especially with Team India.
However, there is no official confirmation from the BCCI as to when and in which format Dhoni will be given the responsibility. Importantly, Dhoni’s role will be discussed in the BCCI Apex Council meeting by the end of this month.
