washington, Indian-origin Manpreet Monica Singh has become America’s first female Sikh judge. He will serve as a judge in Harris County, Texas. After being selected as a judge, Monika informed about this on social media.
Monika wrote that mom, we did it. I would be proud to serve the people of Harris County as a civil court judge. During Monica’s judgement ceremony, the entire court room was packed with people.
After becoming a judge, Monica said that this is a historic moment. A day will come when it will be common for a woman and a Sikh to be a judge. I will put my 20 years of experience to good use. I think it’s important for kids to study so that they can now go into professions that were out of their reach before.
The judge who presided over Monica’s judgement ceremony was Indian-origin Ravi Sandil. Sandil said this moment is extremely important for the Sikh community in America. Manpreet will be a role model not only for the Sikh community but for black women.
Monica Manpreet Singh was born in Houston, USA. She now lives in Belair with her husband and two children. Sikhism is the fifth largest religion in the world. About 5 lakh people of Sikh community live in America. Yet there were no women Sikh judges in America.HS1MS
