Kabul, At least 78 people have died due to severe cold during the winter season in Afghanistan. The authorities gave official information about this.
The cold in Afghanistan has broken the record of the last 15 years. There is a new addition to the woes of Afghanistan, which is facing economic crisis. Some aid groups have partially suspended their operations in Afghanistan over the past few weeks.
Recently, the Taliban ordered that women workers in NGOs could not work, and many aid groups temporarily suspended their operations after this.
Abdullah Ahmadi, head of the operations center for emergency situations of the Ministry of Disaster Management, said that there may be more cold weather in the coming days and for this humanitarian assistance should be provided to the people.
The United Nations humanitarian agency said last week that women workers are facing problems in accessing relief facilities due to various restrictions imposed on them. Humanitarian organizations are making cold protection materials available but distribution efficiency has been badly affected.
Even in the early days of the winter season, health workers are seeing some young children in Afghanistan suffering from pneumonia-like problems. Due to poverty, some people cannot keep the house warm during this cold season. Around 77,000 livestock have also died in Afghanistan in the past nine days, adding a new dimension to the country’s food insecurity.HS1MS
