New Delhi, Gautam Gambhir Appointed as New Head Coach: The Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024 title last month has now undergone a major change.
Head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure was over. In such a situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has now appointed former opener Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach in his place. The Indian team will tour Sri Lanka later this July.
Gambhir will take charge from this tour. But before that comes the big news that there are more big changes in the team. In fact, along with Dravid, the tenure of support staff, batting coach Vikram Rathore and bowling coach Paras Mhambare has also come to an end.
New recruitment is to be done on both these posts as well. In such a situation, Gambhir has suggested 2 names from his side to BCCI for these two positions. According to the information received so far, Gambhir has suggested the name of former Indian fast bowler Vinay Kumar for the bowling coach.
He has played 1 Test, 38 ODIs and 9 T20 matches for the Indian team. Vinay was also part of the Indian team during the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Currently, Vinay is associated with Mumbai Indians in IPL and has also been the bowling coach of Mumbai Emirates in ILT20. Not only that, Gambhir has suggested the name of Abhishek Nair as the batting coach.
He is currently the assistant coach and academy director of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the IPL. Let us tell you that Gambhir's contract as the head coach will end in 2027. But before that they have Champions Trophy 2025, T20 World Cup 2026 and ODI World Cup 2027.
Some reporters are also claiming that former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan is also in the race to be the bowling coach. That means he could replace bowling coach Paras Mhambare, though the final decision on the matter will be taken by the BCCI.SS1MS
