Dhaka, Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was admitted to a private hospital early Thursday morning. This information has been given in a media report.
The Dhaka Tribune newspaper quoted BNP media cell member Sairul Kabir Khan as saying that the 79-year-old Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairman arrived at Evercare Hospital at around 1:40 a.m. from his residence. His doctor, Prof AZM Zahid Hussain, said the medical board had recommended several tests and admitted him to the hospital. Later he has been kept in a private cabin.
“Further treatment will be done after reviewing the test results,” he said. After 45 days of treatment in the same hospital, Jia returned home on August 21. The former prime minister was under house arrest for the past five years. He was released on August 6 on the order of Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin.
He was acquitted of all charges against him after the fall of the Awami League government led by his arch-rival Sheikh Hasina on 5 August.
The BNP chief has been suffering from several ailments including liver cirrhosis, diabetes and kidney, lung, heart and eye problems for a long time. A pacemaker was implanted in his chest on June 23 by a team of specialist doctors.
His doctors are advising him to be sent abroad after he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in November 2021. Earlier this month, Xia was acquitted in five separate cases, including charges of 'fake birthday' and supporting other war criminals. Zia was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from March 1991 to March 1996 and again from June 2001 to October 2006. SS1MS
