Electrolizers produced under “Maid-in-India” will be established for the establishment of 1 MW green hydrogen plant at the Port Authority of Gujarat's important step-by-day day in the field of green hydrogen.
Mission mode is underway across the country in the field of innovative energy. In Gujarat too, corresponding infrastructure facilities are being developed. A significant step has been taken in Gujarat to achieve the target of National Green Hydrogen Mission and change energy. The Union Minister of Bandar, Shipping and Waterway, Shri Sarbanand Sonowal, was set up at the Green Hydrogen Plant of 1 MW under the Port Authority, Kandla.
Vision of DPA (Day Dayal Port Authority) for Green Hydrogen
DPA-Kandla started operating in December 2024 to establish a 1 MW green hydrogen plant that would later be increased to 10 MW capacity by DPA-Kandla, which will be extended to 10 MW capacity. This move is an important attempt to adopt sustainable energy in the Indian coast.
The primary purpose of this plant is to provide effective platforms to engineers and technicians in the production, storage and handling ecosystem of green hydrogen. This will promote innovation and technical excellence in the port's operational structure.
Production of 1 MW electrolyzer in a record of three months
L&T is an established organization in the field of green hydrogen. The same organization was also established by Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi, a 1 MW green hydrogen plant inaugurated about a year ago.
L&T was also entrusted with the task of producing the electrolyzer required for a green hydrogen plant built at Kandla. L&T successfully produced this 1 MW of electrolyzer in a record time of just three months, showing commitment to the Maid-in-India initiative. Electrolyzer is the most important component of any green hydrogen plant, which plays a major role in hydrogen production.
The target of operating the Green Hydrogen Plant by July 2025
Since the site's work has been completed at Kandla, these electrolyzers will be assembled on the site shortly. The Green Hydrogen Plant is aiming to be fully operational by July 2025.
The estimated production capacity is 18 kg of green hydrogen per hour. Which is about 80-90 tonnes per year. This will make DPA Kandla the first port in the country where the green hydrogen plant operating using an indigenous electrolyzer on the premises of the port has been installed. Green hydrogen produced from this feature will be used to produce clean energy via fuel cell, which will pave the way for self-reliant and environmentally friendly power solutions at the port.
In addition, DPA has ambitious plans to integrate green ammonia production by incorporating the required modules in the plant. This will strengthen India's position in the global green energy sector and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality goals. With this landmark goal brings India closer to the vision of the Honorable Prime Minister of the Honorable Prime Minister, as well as the commitment to the target of zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Mr. TK Ramachandran, IRSME, Chairman-DPA Mr. Sushilkumar Singh and Senior Vice President of L&T Green Energy, Mr. TK Ramachandran, Secretary of the Central Port, Shipping and Waterway Ministry in the flag-off program. Shah was present. While other DPA officers and employees witnessed this important occasion from Gandhidham.
