IT’S been a long time since Easter eggs were available in just the classic ‘egg’ form.
And animal lovers are now racing to Aldi to get their hands on adorable dog-shaped chocolate treats.
The popular discount store – which was announced to be ”the cheapest supermarket” in 2023 – recently unveiled its pawfect treat in time for Easter.
The hollow chocolate pups come in two tasty flavours and characters, Charlie the Labrador, a rich marbled milk chocolate, and Honey the Golden Retriever, a silky sweet blonde chocolate.
Priced at £2.99 for a 150g egg, these adorable ‘eggs’ hit the store shelves alongside other Easter-themed deals, such as their budget-friendly kids’ Easter eggs for a mere 99p, as well as a range of Easter egg hunt essentials.
And at under £3 they come in at half the price of Marks and Spencer’s Curly the Puppy version, which will set shoppers back £6 for just 5g more.
Some people think they’re so adorable they’ll be hard to eat.
Posting a picture of the eggs on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, one shopper said: “Spotted these chocolate retriever and labrador puppies for sale in the new Aldi leaflet.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…..as if people are going to eat them……not a chance lol.”
“It’s too cute to eat”, agreed a second.
Meanwhile a third asked: “Who would eat those cuties?”
But dog lovers are eating them – and have confirmed they taste “delicious”.
One said: “I bought two, tried it last week, it’s yummy!!!”
Another added: “I can confirm the golden retriever tastes delicious.”
Someone else chimed in: “Someone bought my kids this and it’s soo tasty.”
Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: “Got the cutest Easter egg in Aldi. My dog is not impressed that it’s not actually for doggos ha but makes a good gift for golden lovers! In this instance, to me from me.”
And a fifth gushed: “Chocolate puppies. i want them ALLLLLL.”
It comes as Aldi customers were racing to get their hands on delicious chocolates which dupe luxury brand Lindt.
The supermarket giant is selling “gorgeous” truffle-filled milk chocolate eggs which make the perfect treat this Easter.
Made by Moser Roth, the packs are £1.99 per 150g in stores and online.
One happy shopper said: “If you love Lindt chocolate these are for you! It tastes exactly the same but only £1.99.”
Another user said: “Better than Lindt.”
“I’ve got a bit of an addiction to these, they are so good,” confessed someone else.
“Oh these are gorgeous,” said a fourth.
