Kabul, A gurdwara in the Afghan capital, Kabul, was hit by a deadly terrorist attack on Saturday. In which terrorists came inside the Gurdwara firing bullets from outside and also targeted the house of Sikhs. The assailants killed the security guard and entered with grenades. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack. Eight people, including a Sikh, were killed and seven others were injured in the attack.
According to reports, the attack took place just before the start of the morning prayers. There was a time when thousands of Hindus and Sikhs lived in Afghanistan. But after decades of struggle, only a handful of Sikhs and Hindus remain. The bomber struck shortly after 9 a.m. local time. According to eyewitnesses, the blast caused smoke to billow into the sky.
The whole area is in a state of panic after the attack. The leader of the Sikh community estimates that there are only 150 Sikhs left in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, most of them in the city of Jalalabad and the capital Kabul.
He said the surviving family also wanted to leave soon. Also, they are trapped here as they are not getting visas from the Indian government. If we get a visa, we will leave immediately.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has condemned the attack. The attack on the Gurudwara should be condemned in the strongest terms, he wrote.
The aftermath of the attack is being monitored. We are concerned about the safety of the people. Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, has issued a statement in this regard. “India is monitoring the situation and is awaiting further information,” he said.
