FOOD shopping can be expensive, but a mum-of-two has revealed how she managed to stock up her pantry for just £5.
TikTok user @mortgagefreeleigh challenged herself to find 12 items for a fiver in her local Tesco.

She wrote: “Remember at Christmas when we did a £20 foodbank shop at Tesco? Well I’m back with a £5 pantry filling challenge.
“I wanted to see what store cupboard essentials we could get from the supermarket for just £5.
“This could either be a top up shop when funds are low or, if you swap out the fresh bread, a budget food bank donation.”
In fact, she came just under budget at £4.90.
In her shop she picked up red kidney beans as they are a “good source of protein” and only cost 33p.
Next up were 32p chopped tomatoes in a can, which she praised for being a “base of many a great meal.”
Then she stocked up on 41p penne pasta and 28p spaghetti, before getting her “grains” in the form of rice and oats.
The shopper then got tinned peas, sliced carrots, tuna and spaghetti hoops.
She also managed to find 39p bread and lastly chickpeas.
However, she added: “The chickpeas were the real budget killer in this shop at 80p.”
In the caption, the TikTok user wrote: “12 items. £4.90. Pantry challenge complete.
“I went to Tesco because it’s my only local supermarket. They Aldi price match a lot of essentials.
“I priced up the cheapest range to show people what they can get for this small budget if needed. I would eat all of these products.
“These are pantry items so with the exception of bread, that is why they’re not fresh.”
Her video has racked up over 15,000 likes and people praised her efforts.
One person commented: “for a £5 budget that’s brilliant.”
Another added: “I try and save a spare £5 each week then pop to tescos and fill my cupboard up u can get so much tins for a fiver.”
