Hotel owner Andi Jones said he has seen everything from broken bottles to empty cigarette packs on the coastline[/caption]
Andi Jones, 56, who runs a five-star hotel in the quaint town, said that it is the “most fantastic place” but that the beaches are now becoming a “free for all” of fly-tipping.
He told Teesside Live that the issues were largely due to residents of “countless motorhomes” in the area “disposing of their rubbish in some very odd ways.
He said: “The beach promenade is somewhere to walk, look after, and protect due to the wildlife.
“The visiting guests and those of us that walk daily enjoying the wonderful surroundings but a few major problems are starting to get worse.
“Nowhere is safe to walk as both animals and humans are being hurt by the left overs of those who don’t seem to care.”
Motorhomes have been a long-running topic of controversy on the town, with the local council enforcing a ban on overnight parking in three of the main car parks in 2018.
Andi even said that he had witnessed holidaymakers emptying their chemical toilets into the sea.
He added: “This is now at a point where wildlife is affected, and guests to the area are commenting on it.
“Motorhomes seem to be able to park anywhere free of charge and unregulated.
“I’m sure I’m not the first to comment, but hope in some way this can highlight a weakness that needs to be addressed.”
