If you’re trying to avoid the UK’s spring showers this year, the city of Valencia has been named the driest city in Europe.

The popular destination on the east coast of Spain is known as the birthplace of paella and the largest producer of oranges.

The data was collected by travel experts at Planet Cruise and almost all of the cities in the list are located in Spain, with Valencia coming out on top.

So, let’s dig into what makes Valencia such a desirable holiday destination…

What’s the weather like in Valencia during winter and summer?

Experts looked at the average temperature, amount of rainfall, number of rainy days and average hours of sunlight. Valencia has just three rainy days each month on average during the colder season.

According to The Weather Network, Valencia’s rainy season tends to last from September to November. During the winter months of January and February, locals and visitors can expect to see just 16mm of rain respectively.

Which Spanish city was voted the best European destination for 2024?

If you want to explore somewhere sunny and warm this spring in Spain, this hot city you’ve definitely heard of should be at the top of your list.

Marbella is already hugely popular among British tourists and expats, but people still love it even though it’s so busy.

And last week it was announced that the city was voted Europe’s best destination for 2024. Over one million visitors voted for Marbella, which means it beat places like Florence, Reykjavik and London.

This equates to just three days of rain for January and February respectively. Meanwhile, the average high temperature reaches 15°C in the first two months of the year, before rising from March.

Valencia is therefore a fabulous location for a last-minute winter sun trip. And it’s only two hours away from London and you can get cheap flights from the capital to Valencia’s Manises Airport for as little as £53 if you fly with Ryanair.

You can get direct flights via British Airways from Heathrow to Valencia and the airline is currently offering a package deal for a three-night break for £189 per person.

What are the top things to do in Valencia?

There’s so much to do in Valencia, whether you’re planning to sunbathe on a beach all day or explore some incredible architecture.

Valencia is home to a number of beaches, including Las Arenas, La Malvarrosa, Patacona and Maritime Promenade.

Other top attractions include the state-of-the-art Oceanarium, the gorgeous Old Town and its famous Parc Central.

The Central Market in Valencia is one of the top rated destinations in the city on Tripadvisor. It hosts flea markets and is a number one stop for shopaholics who love to get a taste of the local culture.

WanderingOttersons on Tripadvisor gushed: ‘Without doubt, our absolute favorite indoor market anywhere in the world we’ve been to.’

There are also fun activities for science enthusiasts in the City of Arts and Sciences, a cultural and architectural complex that’s a feast for the eyes.

L’Oceanografic is an aquarium in the architectural complex there but ifsea animals aren’t your thing, you could pay a visit to Hemisfèric, a digital 3D cinema, with a huge 900 metre concave screen.
