JAMES Cleverly will today call for an international crackdown on illegal immigration following a busy day of small boat arrivals.
The Home Secretary will hail the Rwanda plan — currently gummed up in the Lords — as Channel crossings this year hit 2,006 after 290 migrants made the trip on Sunday.

Mr Cleverly will tell a New York audience: “I am calling for a big, open, global conversation.
“Success is dependent on a holistic, whole-of-route approach.”
He will urge closer co-operation between countries to sign returns deals and cut off smuggling gangs further “up stream”.
The Home Secretary will also stress the damage done to countries whose citizens emigrate en masse.
He will say: “Central to solving the international migration challenge is doing more, collectively, to help people to stay and thrive at home.”
Meanwhile, PM Rishi Sunak told BBC Radio Lincolnshire yesterday that he was not ignoring concerns about the housing of asylum seekers at RAF Scampton.
He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: “I’m not ignoring them.
“We do need to make sure that we house people in appropriate accommodation and the best way to resolve this issue long term is to stop people coming in the first place.
“So anyone who cares about this should be backing us to get the Rwanda Bill through Parliament so we can get a deterrent up and running.
“I’m confident that we really will be able to stop the boats and that will mean that we won’t have this pressure in all our local areas to find places to house illegal migrants.”
