Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has submitted his resignation to Governor Raghubar Das today. BJD has lost the Odisha assembly elections. It has got only 51 seats out of total 147 seats in the state. While BJP has won 78 out of 147 seats in Odisha and has come to power in the state. He has captured the power by ousting the ruling BJD for the past 24 years.
Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik won from the Hinjili assembly seat, but lost the election from Kantabanji. According to the commission's data, the Congress won 14 seats while the CPI(M) won one seat. Independent candidates won three seats.
If we look at the statistics, in the 2019 assembly elections, BJD got 113 seats, BJP got 23 seats and Congress got 9 seats. In 2000, the BJP-BJD alliance came to power in Odisha and Naveen Patnaik became the Chief Minister.
In 2009, the BJD broke off its 11-year-old relationship after seat-sharing talks failed between the two parties. Patnaik won the subsequent elections in the state. Interestingly, even before this year's Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, talks on seat-sharing between the two parties had begun, but failed.
However, this time the BJD supremo could not lead his party to victory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked the people of Odisha and assured them that his party will leave no stone unturned to fulfill their dreams. In a message on 'X', the Prime Minister said, 'Thank you Odisha! This is a big win for good governance and celebration of Odisha's unique culture.
BJP will leave no stone unturned to realize people's dreams and take Odisha to new heights of progress.' Modi said that he is proud of the efforts of hardworking BJP workers.SS1MS
