New Delhi, The T20 World Cup winning Indian team has been stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Team India was supposed to reach New York from Barbados on Monday and then fly to India, but could not do so due to bad weather.
Hurricane Beryl will be effective in Barbados tonight, due to which the airport there may also be closed for a day. So, now the Indian team will fly to Delhi directly in a special chartered plane after the weather improves and the Barbados airport resumes operations. Team India may have to wait till late Monday evening or Tuesday morning to leave Barbados.
The team and staff will fly directly to Delhi from Barbados. In such a scenario, the Indian team could reach the country by July 3. India Today's Vikrant Gupta, who is currently in Barbados, wrote in a post on X, 'Hurricane Beryl will hit Barbados tonight or Monday morning. Landfall will be catastrophic. Barbados Airport may be closed for a day. Flights are being cancelled.
The Indian team will also stay here till the storm subsides and operations resume at the airport. We are stuck here too.
The Indian cricket team ended the 17-year wait by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final match of T20 World Cup 2024 played in Barbados on June 29.
The win helped Team India as well as cricket lovers to forget the pain of their defeat at the hands of Australia in the final of the ODI World Cup played in Ahmedabad seven months earlier (November 19, 2023). Tricolor was celebrated in the streets.
Now Team India is waiting to return home. The players will be given a grand welcome on arrival here. After landing at the airport, there may be a victory procession for Team India, as was the case in Mumbai in 2011. This time the scene can be seen on the streets of Delhi, as the Indian cricket team is about to land in Delhi directly from Barbados.SS1MS
