Smriti Mandhana had to take up science but on the other hand did not want to give up cricket
No one expected captain Harmanpreet Kaur to bowl to Smriti Mandhana against South Africa. Smriti bowled for the first time in her career and not only got a wicket in the second ball but also gave only six runs in the entire over. Smriti Mandhana, who has become the backbone of the Indian women's cricket team, has had a fascinating and interesting journey to succeed the legendary Mithali Raj.

Smriti Mandhana (Indian women's cricket star and RCB Captain Smriti Mandhana), who is included in the list of the best cricketers in women's cricket, has created many records. Smriti Mandhana was born on 18 July 1996 in Mumbai but when she was two years old, her family moved to Madhavnagar in Sangli, Maharashtra. Smriti did her schooling in Maharashtra where she spent her early days. Father Srinivas Mandha was a chemical distributor while mother Smita is a housewife.
Cricket has been part of Mandhana's family as father has played at the district level. His brother Shravan has also played cricket. Shravan is currently a banker but before becoming a banker he had represented the Maharashtra U-19 team. Conscious brother Shravan could not continue cricket. But his presence in Smriti's life influenced her to become a cricketer. It can also be said that she learned the “K'' of cricket from her brother. Going to the practice ground with Smriti's older brother, who was four years older, sparked young Smriti's interest in cricket and it turned into an obsession.
My brother had already started performing well at the junior level by the time I came to my senses, says Smriti. His name used to appear in local news papers. I used to cut and collect news clippings and decided to make runs by playing cricket like Manoman Bhai. When my brother went to the net session, I would accompany him and he would throw the ball to me to practice.
Smriti Mandhana started taking coaching from Ananth Tambavekar, a junior state trainer in Sangli. At the young age of nine, Smriti Mandhana started playing for Maharashtra Under-1P. Despite being young in age, she played so strongly that she overpowered the senior players. As a result, at the age of 11, he was included in the Under-19 state team.
At the age of 15, Smriti Mandhana came to such a turning point in her career that she had to choose between science and cricket. Smriti had to take up science but on the other hand could not leave cricket. So finally continued further studies by taking commerce. Passed Class XII with Commerce. Graduated from Chintaman Rao College of Commerce in Sangli. Cricket could give more time due to taking up commerce.
Interestingly, Smriti Mandhana has received a special gift from Rahul Dravid. About which he says that once brother Shravan happened to meet Rahul Dravid sir, he asked for his bat. Rahul sir gave his bat to bhai and wrote my name on the bat because bhai knows that I am a big fan of Rahul sir. I was very happy to see the bat. I was going to put Rahul sir's autographed bat as a show-piece but as soon as I held the bat I felt a wonderful balance in it.
I started playing with that bat. I gained confidence and my performance started improving. Smriti Mandhana, who won the hearts of people by batting in the field, is simple-minded. He doesn't like to wear makeup. He goes to the gym regularly to stay fit and drinks eggs and protein shakes daily.
That is all about her fitness, but if we look at her achievements, Smirdhi Mandha has already climbed the ladder of progress at a very young age. He has scored more than six thousand international runs so far. Smriti Mandhana is the second cricketer after Australia's Ellyse Perry to win the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year award twice. So far, women's Indian team has won several times by batting strongly. She is the second Indian woman to score 3000 runs in T-20 and the third Indian woman player to score 3000 runs in ODI cricket.
Be that as it may, she has become the first Indian woman cricketer to score ODI and Test centuries in Australia. Smriti also holds the record of becoming captain in a Test match at the youngest age. Thus, Smriti has created many records of memory loss and is still moving ahead in this direction.
