LOVE it or hate it, Wetherspoons is the place to go for a cheap and filling meal and cheeky drink.
But let’s face it, the bargain grub isn’t exactly cooked from scratch by Michelin star chefs and many of the menu favourites are pre-made to get them from the kitchen to your table as fast as possible.

One Wetherspoons worker recently took to TikTok to reveal one of the most underrated menu items – and it might just surprise you.
Ditch the burgers and pizza, according to Macey Newberry you should order the steak on your next visit to the popular boozer.
In the viral video, Macey urged punters to give the steak a go, noting that it’s one of the few dishes that’s cooked fresh.
She ordered the Gourmet steak, medium cooked, with a side of chips, peas and vegetables, not forgetting the peppercorn sauce.
“I probably shouldn’t be telling you this because it is a bid of insider information from working in Spoons,” she said.
“This, in my opinion or to the textbook is the freshest meal Wetherspoons make.”
Although it is one of the more expensive ones coming in at around £12, it’s still a whole lot cheaper than other steaks from pubs and restaurants.
Both the steak and the chips are cooked to order, Macey added, and although the vegetables and sauce are microwaved, they’re also done to order.
So, you can rest assured that you’re getting the most bang for your buck.
“You just can’t go wrong with a steak meal, you know what you’re getting, you know you’re going to enjoy it – so get it,” Macey said.
After sharing her menu recommendation on social media people has mixed reactions.
One said: “Spoons steaks are really hit and miss. I’ve has some awful ones, some pretty decent ones as well.
“But for £10 you really can’t grumble.”
And another said: “Next date night me and my bird will treat ourselves to a Spoons steak.”
Previously, a man who claimed to have worked as a chef in Wetherspoons across Scotland shared some kitchen secrets.
He took to Reddit to dish out the intel on the bargain boozer’s cuisine.
“Most of the food is heated up in the microwave or deep-fried, but the burgers, steaks, paninis and pizzas are done from scratch. The fish is also battered fresh.”
“Believe it or not the bacon is actually cooked fresh, I found it hard to believe myself.”
The Wetherspoons veteran also revealed the bizarre methods the chain uses to prepare some of its customers’ favourite dishes.
He said: “We fried eggs on a flat-top grill thing, but we did scrambled and poached eggs in the microwave.
“The poached eggs came pre-poached – it was always funny watching managers try to come up with excuses for how we could serve fried or scrambled eggs but not poached, or vice versa.
“We tended to keep peas on the boil all shift. Almost all of the time the customers were too p***ed to notice so we could just bounce the ticket without actually giving them the peas.
“I’ve never understood why people order loads of peas to other tables.
“It was a laugh at first but got a bit stale after a week.”

So if you’re planning a pint at a Spoons, it’s worth popping in nearby pubs to see if you’re settling in at the cheapest.

For instance, every Thursday night is curry club, where diners can get a main meal and a drink for a set price cheaper than usual.

Get appy – The Wetherspoons app allows you to order and pay for your drink and food from your table – but you don’t need to be in the pub to use it.
Taking full advantage of this, cheeky customers have used social media to ask their friends and family to order them drinks. The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play.
Check the date – Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.
It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14.
