Advance approval given to 13,982 farmers to build storage structures this year after increasing assistance: Agriculture Minister Shri Raghavji Patel
Under this scheme, from 2021-22 to 2023-24, more than 36,600 farmers will get Rs. Assistance of more than 184.27 crores was disbursed
Gandhinagar, In order for the farmers to get good prices for their produce in the market, it is very important to maintain the quality of the produce for a long period of time and to sell the produce only when the crop prices are good in the market. But many farmers did not have any proper facilities for long storage of produce after harvesting. As a result, farmers used to suffer economic losses due to natural calamities and low market prices. Realizing this pain of the farmers of Gujarat, the state government implemented a new “Mukhyamantri Pak Sanghar Structure Yojana” in the year 2021-22.
Talking about this scheme, Agriculture Minister Shri Raghavji Patel said that the Chief Minister's Crop Storage Structure Scheme was implemented to encourage the farmers of Gujarat to set up storage facilities in their own fields. To avail the benefit of this scheme, the farmers have to construct a crop storage structure of minimum 330 square feet area in their farm, for which necessary financial assistance is provided by the state government.
Under this scheme, 50 percent of the total cost or Rs. 75,000 assistance was given. The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendrabhai Patel has increased the amount of assistance this year in order to get maximum assistance to the farmers. Now for building the structure, the farmer has to pay 50 percent of the total cost under this scheme or Rs. 1,00,000 whichever is less will be given as assistance.
Under the Chief Minister's Crop Storage Structure Yojana, from 2021-22 to 2023-24, more than 36,600 farmers of the state will be provided Rs. More than 184.27 Crores have been disbursed. After increasing the amount of assistance, a total of 13,982 farmers across the state have been given pre-approval for building crop storage structures under this scheme this year, the minister added.
It may be mentioned here that the farmers of Gujarat will be able to take advantage of this scheme to keep their farm produce protected against accidental calamities like rain, storm, locusts and theft for a long time in this 330 square feet structure with a storage capacity of about 16 to 17 metric tons. Not only this, farmers will also be able to systematically store various materials used in farming activities like fertilizers, seeds, medicine, farm implements, irrigation equipment and tarpaulin in this storage structure. As a result, the income of farmers will also increase.
