Under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana, farmers are given financial assistance for installing solar pumps. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel, efforts are being actively made for the comprehensive implementation of this scheme. As a result, more than 7700 farmers have installed off-grid solar pumps in the state by December 2024. Under this scheme, the state government has paid a subsidy of over ₹218 crore to farmers, with an estimated subsidy of up to 70 per cent. With the help of off-grid solar pumps, farmers are saving electricity and also benefiting the environment.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Energy Security and Utthan Maha Abhiyan (PM Kusum) Yojana was launched by the Central Government in the year 2019 to ensure regular availability of water and electricity for irrigation and use of solar energy. Many farmers are using pollution free electricity in agriculture by taking advantage of this scheme. The Central Government has sanctioned the state of Gujarat to install 12382 standalone off-grid solar pumps by March 2026.
Beneficiary Vijayaben V Asodaria, who lives in Hadmatia (Khakhra) village of Bhensan taluk, Junagadh, says that after installing this pump, we run the pump for eight to ten hours during the day and it does not require any kind of electricity supply. This pump has no maintenance cost for five years and has increased yield and income in agriculture. Also, since this pump runs on solar energy, there is no pollution.
