Many fell victim to HIV due to unprotected sex during lockdown – shocking revelation by RTI
Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal are fourth and fifth in the list with 4,09 and 4,9 cases respectively.
New Delhi, RTI has made this shocking revelation. In the year 2030 to 1971, when the country was in the throes of Corona and lockdown was in force in the country, more than 9000 people became victims of HIV due to unprotected sex. There is also a state where the highest number of HIV cases were reported during the lockdown.
Maharashtra had the highest number of HIV cases during the lockdown. In Maharashtra, 10.5 million people became victims of HIV due to unprotected sex. Andhra Pradesh came second. Meanwhile, 2,31 people became infected with HIV in Andhra Pradesh. Third on the list is Karnataka with 4.5 victims. Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal are fourth and fifth in the list with 4,09 and 4,9 cases respectively.
Chandra Shekhar Gaur, an RTI activist from Madhya Pradesh, told the National AIDS Control Organization that 4.5 million people became infected with HIV due to unprotected sex in the year 2020-21.
According to statistics, between 2011-12 and 2020-21, the number of HIV cases reported due to unprotected sexual activity continued to decline. In the year 2011-12 this number was 4.5 lakh which decreased to 1.8 lakh in the year 2012-13 and in the year 2020-21 it has further decreased to 4.5 lakh.
