The process of bringing fugitive Vijay Mallya to India is getting long. The extradition process was initiated two years ago, but the matter has been mired in legal difficulties ever since.
Meanwhile, a case is also going on in the Supreme Court regarding Vijay Mallya. His trial is also going on, but now Mallya’s lawyers do not want to fight the case for him. It has been said that Vijay Mallya has no trace and is not able to speak to him, so his case cannot be contested.
Actually Vijay Mallya has some financial disputes going on with State Bank of India. Advocate EC Aggarwal is playing the role of his lawyer in the same case. But in the recent hearing, EC Aggarwal has refused to contest Mallya’s case.
He told a bench of Justices Chandrachud and Hima Kohli that as far as I know, Vijay Mallya is currently in Britain. But they don’t talk to me. I only have his email address. Now that we can’t find them, I have to get rid of oppressing them.
Now the court has accepted this appeal of EC Agarwal. It has been said that he should go to the court registry and write Mallya’s email id, also give his address. The next hearing in this case is scheduled to be held in January next year. Earlier this year, Vijay Mallya was sentenced to four months in jail by the Supreme Court.
He was given this punishment for disobeying the court order. The government was then also asked to ensure that Vijay Mallya makes his presence felt in India. But at this time Vijay Mallya is present in Britain only.
