DS Pai said, after 3 years of El Nina, there is a possibility of El Nino this year. The country had below 100 rainfall events at a time when the monsoon was below 90. Due to this, India faced drought in 1952, 1965 and 1972 and now we are facing the same situation.
Due to the possible El Nino effect, prolonged drought is likely, said DS Pai. If El Nino peaks in winter and continues through spring 2024, next year could be the warmest on record. If El Nino continues, the record temperature may be broken in 2024. Temperatures are rising across the country.SS1MS
