Mumbai, The new season of the world’s biggest cricket league i.e. IPL is going to start from March 31. This league comes up with something new every year. And something similar is going to happen this time too. This time there is a new rule in IPL. Due to this rule, teams will also be able to take DRS for wides and no balls. There will be a big change in the rules in IPL 2023
This rule is currently applicable in Women’s IPL for white and no balls. And the effect of this new rule has been seen in the three matches played so far. It was first done by MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur when Gujarat Giants and UP Warriors used this rule in the WPL.
In the last over of this match, UP needed 6 runs in 2 balls to win. Then Gujarat bowler Sutherland Dot threw this ball and the umpire did not give it a wide. But that’s when Grace Harris took a review using DRS.
Lia and the third umpire gave a wide to cheer the UP camp and the UP team won the match with one ball to spare. In such a situation you can understand the seriousness of this rule as how the trend of the match can change in a matter of seconds.
According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, after the women’s IPL, this rule will now be used in the men’s IPL this season as well. Players will now be able to use DRS on no balls or wide balls as well. If the DRS is correct then the review will be saved and the team can take the review again but if the review is bad then it will be useless.
This rule will not only benefit the batsmen but also the bowlers. Because in every match the umpire declares a ball as wide or no ball. So the bowler can challenge the umpire’s decision using this DRS.SS1MS
