Amritsar, A huge fire broke out at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar, Punjab on Saturday. The building reportedly caught fire after a large explosion near the OPD. The fire was so fierce that smoke could be seen in the distance. The fire also involved a skin and cardiology ward.
Fire department team reached the spot after getting information about the incident. The fire was brought under control after much difficulty. The fire caused extensive damage to the hospital. It is a matter of relief that no one was killed in the accident. Forty people have been evacuated from the hospital in a timely manner.
The hospital staff rushed the patients to a safe place. Hospital officials have confirmed the blast. He said two power transformers near the OPD exploded, followed by a fire at the hospital.
No one was killed or injured in the blaze, he said. Each transformer contained about a thousand liters of oil which could catch fire due to extreme heat. He said the fire brigade has managed to contain the blaze
