Islamabad, Pakistan’s Shahbaz Sharif government has stepped up security for former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Khan had claimed two days ago that a conspiracy to assassinate him was being hatched in Pakistan and abroad. He said that in case of any mishap with them, people would get information about the culprits through a video message which he has recently recorded and kept in a safe place.
Addressing a rally in Sialkot in Pakistan’s Punjab province, the former prime minister said there was a conspiracy to kill him. I found out about this conspiracy. A conspiracy is being hatched against me in a closed room at home and abroad.
I recorded a video about this conspiracy. This video contains the names of all the people involved. If anything happens to me, people will find out who is behind the conspiracy.
The government of Pakistan has been alerted following the claim of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday directed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to provide pre-security to the PTI chairman. A public statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said that the provincial governments have also been directed to provide foolproof security for Khan.
A Home Ministry spokesperson said that Imran Khan’s security had been beefed up following PM Sharif’s instructions. Police and other security agencies have been directed to decide on the deployment of security personnel. Eight police and Frontier Corps personnel have also been deployed to guard the former prime minister’s Bani Gala residence outside Islamabad.
Importantly, former Home Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that if Imran Khan is arrested, the country will be in a Sri Lankan-like situation.
