New Delhi, Gurunaidu Sanapati has become the first Indian weightlifter to win a gold medal at the ongoing IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) World Youth Championships in Lyon, Mexico. The 19-year-old lifter won the gold medal in the 8kg category late on Sunday night with a total effort of 60kg (105kg and 12kg).

In addition, India’s Soumya S Dalvi won a bronze medal in her event on the second day of the competition. Maharashtra’s Dalvi finished third in the women’s 6kg weight class at 12kg (3kg and 5kg).
Another Indian participant in the competition, R Bhavani, finished 5th with an effort of 12 kg (2 kg and 2 kg). Akanksha Kishore Vyavar and Vijay Prajapati won silver medals in their respective events on the first day of the competition. India has won 4 medals so far in this competition. Ss2kp
