Samarkand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi for the first time face-to-face during the SCO Summit to discuss comprehensive bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Both the leaders arrived in the historic city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan to participate in the 22nd SCO Summit.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted that the first meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi was fruitful. They discussed the progress in the development of Chabahar Port. Various international and regional developments including Afghanistan were also discussed.
Let us tell you that India is developing Iran’s Chabahar port as a major regional transport hub including Afghanistan to boost trade relations. Iran has long been a key country for India in the Gulf region.
Both the countries are jointly focusing on improving their connectivity between Southeast Asia and Central Asia. India is projecting Iran’s Chabahar port as a major regional transit hub, including Afghanistan.
