Jammu, Around 1.6 million tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir since January 2018. The Union Territory government gave this information on Thursday. According to a news agency report, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Jammu and Kashmir government said that the number of tourists to the Union Territories this year is the highest since India’s independence.

After almost three decades, Kashmir is again attracting millions of tourists. Tourism rights say this is a return to the golden age of Kashmir tourism.
The record number of tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir this year bears testimony to the overall development and transformation that has taken place in the Union Territories. Tourism and the largest source of employment in Jammu and Kashmir. And 1.6 crore tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir since January 2017, which is the highest in 75 years of independence.
Tourism has generated maximum employment in various areas of Poonch Rajairi including Jammu and Kashmir Valley. For the last 70 years, people have been demanding international flights to Jammu and Kashmir. To meet this demand, Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi started a direct flight from Srinagar to Sharjah.
Earlier there were no night flights from Srinagar and Jammu but now night flights are available to Jammu as well. Many other models and schemes are also being launched to promote tourism. As part of the Azadika Amrit festival celebrations, 7 offbeat tourist spots are also being developed in Jammu and Kashmir.
In the first eight months of this year, a record-breaking 20.5 million tourists, including 3.6 million Amarnath pilgrims, visited Kashmir. Tourist destinations like Pahalgam Gulama and Sonmarg, as well as hotels and guesthouses in Srinagar, have seen 100 per cent bookings.
