SCHOOLS will be shut again today after freezing temperatures and adverse weather battered Britain for the second night in a row.
Children up and down the country were told to stay at home due to the snow on Monday – with pupils in Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire and East Sussex worst affected.
And many schools earlier announced they will be closed for second day running – with confirmed closures taking place in Essex, Kent, East Sussex and Devon and Cornwall.
A statement from one primary school, Chigwell Academy in Essex, read: “Due to adverse weather and temperatures due to drop again overnight, we have taken the difficult decision to close the school again tomorrow (Tuesday 13th December 22) as the health and safety of staff and pupils is paramount.”
Meanwhile, Forecasters believe things will only get worse after the mercury dropped to -17.3C in parts of Britain last night, in what was officially the coldest night of the year.
