Injured player has to perform well in domestic cricket if he wants to return to the team: Jay Shah
(Agency) New Delhi, If any player of the Indian team is injured, there is a question many times when they can come back in the game. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah has clearly spoken about this. He said that if an injured player wants to return to the team, he has to perform well by playing domestic cricket. That means the injured player cannot play directly in the team after recovery.
In a recent interview, Jay Shah spoke about the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Duleep Trophy. He said that there is no point in forcing Rohit and Virat to play domestic cricket as it involves a lot of workload.
However, he said that any player who wants to make a comeback after injury has to prove his mettle by playing domestic cricket first. After that he can come up. He said that in 2022, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was injured. After that he had to play domestic cricket for Saurashtra and only then returned to the team.
He said we are a little strict. When Ravindra Jadeja got injured, I called him and told him that he has to play the domestic game. One thing is certain that if someone goes out due to injury and wants to come back, he has to prove his fitness by playing domestic cricket. But there is no reason to ask Virat and Rohit to play domestic cricket because of the possibility of injury. We have to see how England and Australia play. There are no top players playing domestic cricket. We should also work with our players in a respectful manner.
Meanwhile, there is also a question that when will Indian bowler Mohammad Shami be able to make a comeback. Earlier this month, Shami himself expressed uncertainty about his return date. Shami has injured his ankle during the 2023 World Cup. Now he will return to the Indian team in the month of October.
Shami will be in the squad before India play the Test series against New Zealand. For that he has to prove his fitness in domestic cricket as well. So Mohammad Shami is likely to play a match for Bengal. The match starts on October 11 against Uttar Pradesh and is followed by a match against Bihar in Kolkata on October 18.
Jay Shah also gave an update about Mohammad Shami and said that he is an experienced and useful player and is needed in Australia. The selectors led by Ajit Agarkar had initially hoped that Shami would be able to play the series against Bangladesh in September, but he was unable to play due to his lengthy recovery process.
