New Delhi, World’s richest man Elon Musk is making quick decisions after becoming the new owner of social media platform Twitter. After the company fired several executives, including Indian-origin CEO Parag Agarwal, Musk has now fired all of the company’s board directors. Now Elon Musk is the sole director of Twitter.
According to an American newspaper report, people close to Elon Musk have informed that 25 percent of Twitter’s employees may be fired. Musk has discussed the issue of layoffs with him. An aide to Musk was seen discussing with the rest of Twitter’s senior executives over the weekend, in which 25 percent of Twitter’s workforce has been laid off, in addition to content moderation.
Alex Spiro, a prominent celebrity lawyer who has represented Musk for many years, has been prominently involved in the debate. Spiro plays an active role in the management of several teams at Twitter, including legal, government relations, policy and marketing.
Longtime Musk collaborators David Sachs and Jason Calcanis are appearing in company directories over the weekend. Both had official company emails and were titled ‘Staff Software Engineer’.
Musk’s title in the directory was CEO. Meanwhile, the team was estimating that about a quarter of the 7,000 employees could be out in the first round of layoffs. This retrenchment will be done in every department. In the days to come, employees from sales, product, engineering, legal and security departments are expected to be particularly impressed.
Elon Musk denied the layoff news. When a Twitter user tweeted about the retrenchment and tried to know Alan Musk’s reaction, he said – this news is wrong. Some of Twitter’s highest-paid employees after engineers work in sales, with employees earning more than $300,000, according to documents released by a newspaper. Twitter, Musk, Spiro, Sachs and Calcanis did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment.
Elon Musk took over Twitter on October 28. After becoming the owner, he terminated Twitter CEO Parag Aggarwal, CFO Ned Segal and Legal Affairs-Policy Head Vijaya Gadde from the company. Not only that, Musk kicked them out of the company’s headquarters.
