Junagadh, In the writ petition on the issue of pollution on the temples at Girnar, the High Court expressed its displeasure that the Junagadh Corporation did not give a clear answer on the issue of plastic recycling, despite the High Court giving a clear order earlier. Also, the High Court has now ordered the Gujarat Pollution Control Board-Systems Regional Manager to present a report on affidavit in this matter.
Along with this, the Junagadh Municipal Commissioner has also been ordered that the annual report on the issue of recycling of plastic waste, if any, should be presented before the court.
Further hearing of this case was fixed on 17th September. In this case it was the petitioner's case that the temples of Junagadh hills are located in the hills known as Girnar forest and it has been declared as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 2008.
As per the petitioner's case, this Girnar sanctuary has 56 lions and is also home to vultures. The petitioner's complaint is that thousands of people visit these temples every day. The hills are not properly maintained by the respondent. Because, plastic waste used by visitors is thrown and not cleaned regularly.
In the previous hearing, the High Court had questioned the advocate of Junagadh Corporation, 'How is the recycling of waste at Girnar done.' But then, finding his affidavit and answer not satisfactory, the High Court said, 'Mr. The Commissioner shall so affidavit.
He can make an affidavit on the basis of giving an oral instruction to him.' Then the High Court has said in the order that, 'Collector Junagadh has sworn and a corpus of fine rupees has been created. Various awareness measures have been taken on the issue of plastic ban in eco-sensitive zones and 24 complaints have been registered.
A zonal master plan has been formulated. A committee has been constituted under the Secretary of Forest Department. So now the authority affidavit states what action is to be taken regarding the declaration of Girnar Eco Sensitive Zone in Zonal Master Plan. A response on plastic recycling should be presented and continuous monitoring should be done to make Girnar eco sensitive zone a plastic free zone.'SS1MS
