Introduction
Indian Red Cross Society is known as a leading organization in medical and humanitarian social services in Gujarat. Branches of Indian Red Cross Society are functioning in all 33 districts and 91 taluka headquarters in Gujarat. Over the years, the institute has been doing significant work in association with the government to take care of the health of the citizens of the state through intensive screening of thalassemia, sickle cell anaemia, cervical cancer, breast cancer including prosthetics, pathology, dental and physiotherapy facilities.

Gujarat Red Cross is fully automatic and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. An average of 25,000 patients have benefited from the Institute's Pathology OPD every year in the last 3 years. Since January 2023, 77,412 women have been screened for anemia by the institute. 12 pathology labs of Gujarat Red Cross are functioning in the state for blood tests and body profile at concessional rates and 14 more new laboratories are going to be started in the near future.
Different types of Body Profile Tests (Arthritic Profile, Diabetes Profile, Anemia Profile, Pyrexia Profile, Basic, Advanced, Premium, Executive Body Profile) are provided by the organization at affordable rates to all categories. Institute's pathology laboratory at Ahmedabad is NABL accredited.
Thalassemia And Sickle Cell control
The Red Cross started the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Prevention Program in 2004 to eradicate hemoglobinopathies like thalassemia and sickle cell among the citizens of Gujarat. From 2004 to 2024, 12 universities in Gujarat have joined the institute's premarital screening program.
Under which a total of 39,12,581 students have been screened.
Number of thalassemia minor students is 1,61,569 (4.13%); The number of students with sickle cell trait is 1,67,819 (4.3%) and the number of normal students is 35,83,193.
So far 1,19,345 youths have been screened under the screening program of people from high risk society, out of which 14% to 17% youths have been found to be thalassemia or sickle cell positive.
Under the intrauterine screening and pre-natal diagnosis project, 9,39,158 pregnant women have been screened from 2010-2023, out of which the number of positive pregnant women is 51,061 and 40,715 husbands have been screened. Pre-natal diagnosis out of 2,605 cases has prevented the birth of 602 thalassemic children, which is a significant achievement of this project.
Cervical Cancer Awareness program
Cervical Cancer Awareness Program is being run by Indian Red Cross Society, Gujarat Branch since 2018. More than 11 thousand women of the state have been screened through cervical cancer screening program by Red Cross.
In House Artificial Limb manufacturing Center
Indian Red Cross Society, Ahmedabad's in house Artificial Limb Manufacturing Center since 1972 has been doing the noble work of brightening the lives of disabled persons by providing artificial limbs to the needy persons with disabilities.
Prime Minister Gen herb center
On September 17, 2023, on the occasion of the 73rd birthday of the country's Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi, 73 Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras were simultaneously opened by Gujarat Red Cross at Gujarat Government Hospitals. In the last 1 year, the citizens of the state have been saved more than 100 crore rupees through cheap medicines by Red Cross.
