India’s leading airline successfully completed its ERP modernization program by migrating on-premise legacy mainframe systems to the SAP cloud, laying a solid foundation for its digital transformation journey.
New Delhi, India’s leading airline and Star Alliance member Air India announced the successful migration of its core Enterprise Resource Planning system using RISE With SAP. RISE With SAP is a tailor-made ERP software,
Equipped with transformational services, business analytics and partner expertise, it helps companies chart their personalized path to the cloud. Migration through SAP was an important tool in Air India’s comprehensive digital transformation, which will impact modernization in major functional areas such as finance, human resources, commercial, operations and engineering.
One of the biggest challenges faced by Air India in its complete modernization drive was that its legacy ERP system ran on a decade-old mainframe and associated software. Migration and cutover of such critical systems are carried out with back up and restore operations on the same system.
As this system was not available anywhere in the world, there was a big hurdle. Team Air India worked closely with SAP to devise innovative solutions and techniques to meet this challenge and resulted in a successful migration ahead of schedule. This migration paves the way for further modernization of Air India’s ERP system to combine the group’s other airlines into one entity.
Chief Digital and Technology Officer of Air India Dr. Satya Ramaswamy said, “Air India’s vision is to be the most technologically advanced airline in the world. This requires a critical and solid capability to have a highly reliable and scalable modern ERP system, which improves our operational efficiency and helps us deliver a better customer experience.
We identified the migration process of our ERP system to a modern cloud infrastructure as an important step in the transformation journey. We are delighted to have successfully migrated using a high level of creativity in tackling the challenges ahead. We are grateful to the excellent team at SAP who worked with us to complete this transformation process smoothly and ahead of schedule.”
Kulmeet Bawa, President and Managing Director (Indian Subcontinent), SEP, said, “Air India is one of the most iconic brands in the country and is about to add a new chapter towards becoming a world-class airline by serving global customers with a proud Indian heart.
We are thrilled to deepen our long partnership. With SAP’s state-of-the-art cloud technology, Air India will enhance its customer experience, become an intelligent, sustainable enterprise and transform people as an important aspect of its growth.”
